RENOVATION + EXTENSION IN BRIGHTON
LITTLE BEAUTY ON ROSLYN

Little Beauty on Roslyn is a modest renovation and extension project located in Brighton, Victoria. Rather than pursuing scale or visual prominence, the design is guided by restraint — focusing on proportion, material honesty, and the quiet transformation of an existing home.

The project carefully reworks and extends the original dwelling, allowing the new architecture to sit comfortably within its established residential context. The intervention is intentionally subtle, respecting the rhythm of Roslyn Street while introducing a contemporary layer that feels calm, grounded, and enduring.

A textured 042 LB Blended brick from AH Bricks & Pavers forms the primary external material, lending depth and tactility to the façade. The brickwork is detailed with care, allowing light and shadow to animate the surface throughout the day. Selective arched openings soften the form and introduce a sense of familiarity, while remaining distinctly modern in their execution.

Internally, the home is organised around a sequence of light-filled spaces that prioritise everyday living. The extension opens the house toward the garden, strengthening the relationship between interior and landscape. Large sliding doors, sheer curtains, and framed views allow the home to expand and contract naturally with the seasons.

At the heart of the extension sits the kitchen, anchored by a honed Macchia Bella Dolomite island bench. The stone’s subtle veining and muted tones complement the restrained interior palette, balancing elegance with practicality. Integrated joinery, concealed storage, and carefully considered detailing ensure the spaces feel calm and uncluttered.

Natural light is introduced through skylights and carefully positioned openings, softening the interiors and enhancing the tactile quality of materials. Timber flooring, neutral finishes, and built-in elements contribute to a sense of warmth and continuity throughout the home.
