ALLEY HOUSE
Location : Khiran, Kuwait
Type : Beach House
Status : Completed | 2014
The Alley House was a challenging project for us due to the limited space and linear plot. The main façade was restricted to 16 meters at ground level and 13 meters above that level, which made it difficult to design five individual suites with maximized views to the beach from living spaces and private bedrooms for the owner and their family. To overcome this challenge, we split the building into two interconnected volumes with bridges and an angled alleyway in between. This design created multiple shaded spaces and a wind-tunnel effect, which made it a pleasant environment for various activities. The front of the house features a sleek overflow pool and grass lawn with stunning ocean views.

The layout of the house was designed to provide sufficient privacy for the family and visitors. The services and public facilities are situated in the front (street) side, while the private components are located in the sea side, with anchoring views to the sea. This arrangement creates a visual connection and natural lighting between the rooms at all levels. The resulting design of the Alley House is a movement imitating the dynamic of a natural alley. The angular turns in the building’s volumes maximize sea views, while the coordinated components that open yet give multiple shaded spaces create a very appealing passage in the heart of the complex.
