MODERN ITALIAN RESTAURANT IN CROYDON
ROWANOS RESTAURANT

Rowanos is a restaurant and bar located in Croydon South, Victoria. The project involved a complete interior transformation together with subtle exterior modifications to establish a distinctive street presence within an otherwise typical suburban commercial strip.

The design focuses on creating a warm and inviting dining atmosphere through the use of layered materials, controlled lighting and carefully detailed joinery. At the heart of the space sits a central bar clad entirely in richly veined green natural stone, forming a sculptural focal point that anchors the interior. Above the bar, custom timber shelving displays bottles and glassware while integrated lighting highlights the depth and texture of the materials.

Surrounding the bar, dark timber joinery, bronze metal detailing and perforated bronze mesh screens create a refined yet relaxed character. A custom cylindrical feature column with illuminated circular lighting elements introduces a subtle contemporary gesture while reinforcing the material language of bronze and warm metals.

The ceiling has been designed using curved acoustic panels to soften the interior atmosphere while improving acoustic performance for a lively restaurant environment. This allows the space to remain comfortable even when the restaurant is busy.

Seating areas are arranged to offer a variety of dining experiences, from intimate tables to bar seating overlooking the preparation and service areas. The material palette of timber, stone, bronze and warm neutral finishes creates a timeless and welcoming environment suited to long evenings of dining and social interaction.

Externally, the restaurant frontage was redesigned to establish a strong identity within the streetscape. A sculptural entry framed with bronze mesh and arched detailing creates a clear point of arrival while the illuminated signage gives Rowanos a visible presence along the street.

The result is a restaurant environment that balances warmth, craftsmanship and contemporary design, creating a memorable dining destination within Croydon South.
