MODERN HOME IN CROYDON NORTH
RICHARDSON HOUSE
Location : Croydon North, Victoria, Australia
Type : Single Family House
Status : in-Progress | 2026
Set against the steep contours of Croydon North, Richardson House embraces one of Victoria’s most challenging terrains — a site with a fall exceeding 45 degrees — and transforms it into an architectural response defined by restraint, rhythm and elevation. Designed by Enclave Architects, the home steps purposefully with the land, forming a cascading arrangement of horizontal planes that feel both anchored and airborne.
The exterior is composed of Krause Empress Ghost brick — chosen for its chalky, monolithic presence — intersected by crisp white rendered bands that emphasise its geometric clarity. At ground level, crazy paving dissolves the boundary between structure and landscape, softening the mass while grounding it in material honesty. Internally, warmth is introduced through Hazel Oak timber veneer and continuous timber flooring, offering a refined counterpoint to the robust masonry shell.
Arabescato Grigio stone threads through the interiors as a consistent mineral signature, appearing across kitchen benchtops, the fireplace surround, and bathroom surfaces. The main living, kitchen and dining space unfolds toward the horizon, extending directly to a pool terrace overlooking uninterrupted views of the Lilydale hills and Kinglake ranges.
A level-set fire pit lounge continues the axis of connection — aligning flame, water and distant landscape within a single frame. Beyond its open central spine, the residence is meticulously programmed for contemporary living: four bedrooms, each with private ensuite and walk-in robe, a cinema room, two dedicated office spaces, a wellness quarter, and a four-car garage tucked discreetly into the rear of the house.
Rather than resisting its environment, Richardson House finds precision within topography — a dwelling not imposed on the landscape, but calibrated to float within it.
