MODERN RENOVATION IN BONDI
NANCY STREET HOUSE
Location : Bondi, New South Wales, Australia
Type : Single Family House
Year : proposal | 2025
This Bondi beachside renovation and extension reimagines an existing family home through a carefully crafted architectural language that is both sculptural and restrained.
Curved brickwork becomes a defining element throughout the project — expressed in cylindrical columns, arched openings and circular windows — softening the home’s presence and introducing a calm, coastal rhythm. These masonry elements are paired with smooth white curved forms that wrap balconies, overhangs and roof edges, creating a strong yet elegant identity that responds to the beachside context.
Rather than treating the project as a complete departure from the original dwelling, the new architecture is deliberately woven into the existing structure. Material continuity, consistent proportions and carefully aligned openings allow old and new to merge seamlessly, resulting in a cohesive whole that feels considered and timeless.
Light timber soffits, pergolas and screening add warmth and texture, filtering sunlight and providing shade while reinforcing the relaxed coastal character of the home. Circular roof openings and curved balcony edges introduce moments of softness and play, allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the building and creating a constant dialogue between sky, structure and landscape.
Internally, the renovation improves spatial flow and connection to the outdoors. Large glazed openings link living areas directly to terraces, landscaped gardens and the pool, blurring the boundary between inside and out. Brick detailing continues internally through circular openings and framed views, creating visual continuity and subtle moments of delight throughout the home.
The result is a contemporary beachside home that feels refined yet relaxed — a thoughtful renovation and extension that respects the existing structure while giving it a new architectural life, firmly grounded in its Bondi setting.
